Travel Route Plan
Day 1: Guwahati – Tezpur (180 kms/ 4 hours)
Welcome to Guwahati! After airport pickup, proceed to your hotel in Tezpur for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Tezpur – Ziro (240 kms / 6 hours)
Drive towards Ziro, stopping at Nyishi settlements to experience their culture and traditional costumes. Visit the bustling Naharlagun market, followed by a tour of the fort in Itanagar. Arrive in Ziro at day’s end. Night stay in Ziro.
Day 3: Ziro
Today you explore the charming Apatani villages, famous for their rich traditions. Notice the elders with long braided hair or forehead buns and the older women with iconic facial tattoos and wooden nose plugs. Their bamboo stilt homes stand closely together across seven picturesque villages traversed by the Kali River. Later, attend an Apatani cultural dance show. Night stay at the hotel.
Day 4: Ziro – Daporijo (160 kms / 3 hours)
After an early breakfast, depart for Daporijo to explore the cultures of the Hill Miris, Tagins, and Adi Gallongs. The journey unfolds through spectacular scenery—towering mountains, winding rivers, and vast stretches of dense forest. Travel along the Kamla Valley, home to Nyishi villages scattered across the hills. The road then climbs into the Hill Miris region, weaving through deep jungle terrain. Throughout the day, immerse yourself in the diverse tribal traditions of the area. Daporijo, situated at the meeting point of three valleys, is home to the Hill Miris, Tagins, and Adi communities. Night at the hotel.
Day 5: Daporijo – Aalo (150 kms / 4 hours)
This morning, continue your journey into the heart of the Adi Galong region as you travel toward Aalo. En route, you’ll pass through Tagin and Adi Galong villages, recognizable by their traditional bamboo houses. In the Galong areas, the homes stand out—broader, better crafted, and featuring large terraces sheltered by extended palm-leaf roofs. The Adis are skilled farmers as well as exceptional hunters; if you observe the forest closely, you may notice their ingenious bamboo traps, each uniquely designed for different prey. The landscape shifts beautifully between rice fields, tropical forests, pineapple patches, and gardens of chili, tangerine, banana, and sugarcane. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 6: Aalo – Damro – Yingkiong (115 kms / 3 hours)
Travel from the Brahmaputra—called the Siang here—to the Yamne River, beginning with village visits in the Aalo region. Cross the Siang on a striking 70-meter bamboo-and-rattan suspension bridge supported with steel cables. Follow the river northward by road, then cross to the eastern side via the Dite Dime Bridge. Meet the Adi Minyong people along the way. Deeper in the Yamne River basin, explore Adi Simong and Adi Karko villages, especially the important settlement of Yingkiong. Spend the night at a lodge.
Day 7: Yingkiong – Pasighat (120 kms/ 3 hours)
This morning, depart for Pasighat, the charming land of scenic suspension bridges. Spend the night at Abor Country River Camp with stunning views of the Siang River.
Day 8: Pasighat – Dibrugarh (150 kms – 3 hours)
Travel to Dibrugarh, enjoying a beautiful drive alongside the Brahmaputra. Once in the city—one of Assam’s major gateways to Arunachal and Nagaland—wander through its bustling market. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 9: Dibrugarh – Majuli Island (170 kms/ 4 hours)
After breakfast, leave for Sivasagar to tour Parvatidol, Shivadol, and Vishnudol temples. Continue to Neematighat for your ferry ride to Majuli—an extraordinary river island celebrated for its Vaishnavite satras and distinctive lifestyle. During the journey, look out for migratory birds and the elusive Gangetic dolphin. Explore Mising settlements and visit Kamalabari Satra along with other traditional monasteries. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 10: Majuli Island – Jorhat (1 hour by Ferry)
This morning, visit Samoguri Satra to witness Majuli’s renowned mask-crafting heritage. Afterwards, transfer to the riverbank to board the ferry to Jorhat. Spend the night in a charming Heritage Tea Bungalow within the Tea Estate.
Day 11: Jorhat – Kohima (190 kms/ 5 hours)
Early morning excursion to the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for its Hoolock Gibbons—the only living apes of the region. Afterwards, transfer back to the hotel for breakfast before heading to Kohima. Overnight stay in Kohima.
Day 12: Kohima
After breakfast, visit the Kohima War Cemetery, a solemn tribute to the officers and soldiers who gave their lives during the Second World War. Continue to Khonoma village, 21 km from Kohima, known as Nagaland’s first “Green Village” and the home of legendary leader Angami Zapu Phizo, founder of the Naga movement. In the afternoon, explore Kisama Heritage Village before returning to Kohima. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 13: Kohima – Kaziranga (221 kms/ 5 hours)
Drive to Kaziranga National Park after breakfast and check in to your hotel upon arrival. Evening at leisure to visit the nearby Orchid Park and enjoy traditional dance performances. Night stay in Kaziranga.
Day 14: Kaziranga (2 Jeep Safari – Eastern and Western Part))
This morning, head to Kaziranga National Park for an exciting day of wildlife safaris. Post breakfast, take a jeep safari in the eastern Agoratoli Range, home to many endangered species and migratory birds. After returning to the hotel for lunch, set out for a second safari in the western range. Night stay at Kaziranga.
Day 15: Kaziranga Elephant Safari – Shillong (280 kms/ 6 – 7 hours)
Early morning wake-up for an Elephant Safari, with two options: first safari at 5:00 AM or the second at 5:30 AM—choose whichever suits you. After breakfast, drive to Shillong, stopping en route at the scenic Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake). On arrival, check in to your hotel. Spend the evening at leisure exploring the century-old Wards Lake and the bustling Police Bazaar. Overnight stay in Shillong.
Day 16: Shillong – Cherrapunjee (65 kms/ 2 hours)
After breakfast, set out for Cherrapunjee with a stop at the picturesque Noh Ka Likai Falls. Discover Cherrapunjee’s attractions including the Cave Garden, Wakhaba, Arwah Cave, Mawsmai Cave, and the majestic Seven Sisters and Nohkalikai Falls. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
Day 17: Cherrapunjee – Mawlynnong (3 hours/ 90 kms)
Travel to Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village. Arriving at the parking area, take a short walk to the incredible Living Root Bridge. Explore the nearby Balancing Rock and climb a bamboo ladder around a tree to enjoy sweeping views of the Bangladeshi plains. Meet locals and wander along the village’s neat pathways. Day 18: Mawlynnong – Dawki – Nartiang – Guwahati (240 kms/ 6 hours)
Today, visit Dawki to see the stunningly clear Umngot River. Proceed to the magnificent Krangshuri Waterfalls and then to Nartiang, where you will explore the Durga Temple and ancient monoliths. Continue to Guwahati and stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 19: Departure
Today after breakfast, visit the famous Kamakhya Temple. To save time, it’s advisable to secure a special pass. Later, take a ropeway ride for an aerial perspective of the smallest river island overlooking the Brahmaputra. The tour concludes with a drop at Guwahati Airport
